ACC SENSITIVE CLAIMS

For survivors of sexual abuse, reaching out for support is a courageous step.  Whether the abuse happened recently or many years ago, seeking support is important for ensuring that you are able to move forward from past trauma, and go on to live life to the fullest.

Therapy for survivors of sexual abuse is fully funded by ACC.  Anyone who has experienced an event that fits the ACC criteria for a sensitive claim is eligible for up to 14 sessions of individual therapy.  For clients who have completed a supported assessment process, and where it has been identified that a mental injury has resulted from the abuse, long-term therapy is available.  All costs for therapy are funded by ACC, and there are no surcharges for the client.

A list of events that fit the eligibility criteria for ACC Sensitive Claims funding is available here: http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2001/0049/latest/DLM105476.html.  However, please take care when deciding whether to view this list, as it may be triggering for many clients.  Please feel most welcome to make contact with us directly if you have any queries about whether you would be eligible for ACC funded therapy.

We are also available to provide supported assessment services, for clients who are engaged with another counsellor or therapist.  (Some ACC therapy providers are also able to provide assessment services, but others may only be contracted to provide therapy.)  If your counsellor or therapist has indicated that another professional will be needed to support your assessment, please feel free to discuss with them whether we would be a good fit for supporting you with the assessment phase of your journey.
